My homemade Stew-Mac kit. Named The Pos'm, I decided to 'distress' it to hide the obvious flaws that I made in binding and finishing. It's varnish, so I can smooth the finish out at some point... but why.

BTW, this thing sounds awesome! It's not as good as either of my Daley's but it has a more modern tone and it's durn clear and resonant. I'd be proud to play it anywhere.

I thought the orange shellac might make it look older... it does... but I overdid it. It looks odd. I can deal with odd.

BTW, Pos'm is an acronym... how was I to know it would end up sounding and playing really well?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blues.gif

The only problem at all that I have with it is that I made the neck so flat, that it has very little relief in the neck. When Sim Daley saw it and played it (I took it with me when I was having #56 made and I was checking out tops and stuff), he was surprised it was my first (and only). Since then it's opened up nicely. Butt ugly... great playing... great sounding. I'm happy. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I like the name and don't think it's "Butt ugly".

Good job. Play it proud, play it loud.

I got a huge chuckle out of your acronym! #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

But it looks like a fine mandolin; and for your first hand-made one, great job. #If'n you're happy with your efforts and the results, that's all that really matters.

I think it's pretty nice, specially for a first effort. FWIW, I like the orange shellac, too. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
