I had a little minor surgery this week, so I've found myself with a lot of time on my hands. Luckily enough, I got a new mandolin, so having a bunch of time to sit around has been both fun and productive.
At some point today I was picking and staring blankly at my shoulder bag, which was lying beside my chair. It occurred to me how nice it would be to have a mandolin strap made of similar stuff. So...I talked the wife into driving me to Wal-Mart on a Saturday evening (brave, I know) and went to the arts and crafts department (a first). I bought about five bucks worth of nylon strap, a few book-bag style clips, a heavy needle, nylon thread and some super glue. Cost me about 10.00 bucks, total.
Since I prefer the flat, wide strap, I've always hated struggling to get my mandolin's strap around the scroll. This has eliminated that problem and it feels much more secure to me. Anyway, here's the finished result on Poe 14.
