Since Ken's F-style thread was resurrected I thought I'd put some pics of a newer A-style blonde. I've got a couple other As coming out now as well including a sunburst.

Beautiful work, Chris! I'm excited about getting together to start on ours! I had already decided blonde is the way to go and that pic just reaffirms that decision. As a woodworker I'm always amazed at the quality of your work... I'm really looking forward to working with you.

Here are some pics of Al's mando. I hope y'all forgive me, I'm a bit tired of the "glamour shots" thing. I put a lot into how they look, but, that is just fluff... these things are made to be played and heard. I hope folks come across these and get to play them, that is what they are made for. Here are some "computer room" shots. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I started off trying Tom Ellis's oil french polish, I almost got it down but ended up regressing to shellac. I've been working hard to get my french polishing to the point where the surface quality is all about french polishing and no abrasives. I want them to glow not shine.

The tuners..

both top notch. if they sound half as good as they look, there's a couple really lucky mandolin pickers out there.

Outstanding build. I bet the tone is wonderful too, and playability to match the looks.

Now on to personal opinions -
If it were mine the block inlays would have some curve to them, same too for the finger rest straight side. I dearly love the backstrap and headstocks.

Tuners? Tuners? There are tuners? #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I can't stop ogling at the inlay. It's absolutely gorgeous.

I'm pumped. I think the best decision I made was to choose a small builder to work with. The process has been wonderful and Chris' creation is simply divine.

Call me crazy, but I just sent Chris an email asking him to pass it around to his friends out there for a while and to enjoy what he has made. Because once I get it, you will have to pry it from my cold, stiff hands to get it back. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Al, I was lucky enough to be passed your mandolin tonight, and I can tell you without question that you are going to be absolutely THRILLED! It looks great, but it sounds even better.

I'll second Chip's assessment of your new mando and the two blondes that Chris brought up... amazing work! They all sounded marvelous and Chris' attention to detail is spectacular! As much as I loved playing them it was a real pleasure to sit across from Chip, Ken, and Steve and listen to some fine pickers pull the nuances out of each of these instruments. I appreciate the opportunity to sit in on this mando-tasting and I'm looking forward to working with Chris on my wife's and my instrument.

Thanks Ken and Chris for getting this together and it was good to meet you, Chip.
