I know you are busy http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I can get a good deal on ghs, dino doesnt know about them, but said he would micr. them and tell what the guages are. jeez, I dont want to wait weeks,,, do you know about these? I can get them like a $1.50 a set,
but I wont get them if they are unusable for greek....

I honestly don't know, Jeff. Most "common" brands would mean bouzouki as in "Celtic", not Greek. Also, their lowest courses may not be in octaves, which, of course, you would need. Dunno. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

But you shouldn't have to wait for ages. Greek bouzouki strings are easy enough to find.

oh, I know I can zouki strings no problem, I meant waiting for dino to try them out could take a while considering he's made his money, and now he's basically doing me a favour,,, I mean he could be pimping out "his" strings... (mari's twice the price)

a.) buying a set from my local shop
B) I have to mail the strings to dino, 3-5 days delivery by mail
c) Dino puts them on the micrometer, and gives me a call,, how many days?

so add it all up,,, yeh, I will wait a couple of weeks on "this particular deal"

of course, I wont have a problem scoring strings off Mari....$3 all strings he told me, guitar, zouk, mando, "we're friends, now" he said....(he likes that extra and frequent $70)and I pay him cash, sweet effortless cash. but my local shop offered me $1.50 so naturally, thats tempting...

now the Ghs do say "silver wound" and dino was optomistic about that,,

he said he spoke to GHS years ago about what guages they should use, but he didnt feel confident they took him seriously...he's seen many heavy sets, but he hasnt seen the actual siverwounds. #

well, when I find out from dino, I guess I can help us all out...I'll post the results, if anybody cares.

Jeff:
I think you posted in a couple of places. I posted this link (http://www.juststrings.com/ghs-bz-8.html) which lists the gauges. Is this the same set you were getting at a bargain price?

Jim

jim, thanks for that link, it did build confidence that I could use them, but I cant see an actual "pic" of the pack..... so I dont know if these are the sets that are in my music store, and even if they are, if I can truely trust GHS's judgement of proper tension for greek instruments...dino seems weary...

I'd check at Bouzouki Forum, Jeff. Those guys know all the A-to-Z of Greek bouzoukis and their appropriate strings, picks, cases, etc.

Ask Pavlos Kakouris directly (i.e. via email) which strings he uses/recommends; or get some from Kalis in Canada; or order a bunch from Matsikas in Athens; or ask any, ANY bouzouki-store in Greece to ship you a shipload of them...

It seems to me that you are complicating a relatively simple matter.

I am NOT shopping for strings . http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have a store, locally, willing to sell me sets of strings for a $1.50 per pack.

now to me, this is worth checking out, as this is a dozen sets we are talking about...

.... IF the strings work, then this will kick a--. #$18 for 12 sets of strings. tax 7%
== $25 # #and my time invested in research, I am being paid for...nepotism , you remember

-- you do agree, thats a sweet deal, if these strings are useful... and thats all I looking to find out.

otherwise, everything else is complicated when I already can buy from mari cheaper than any of other brands. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
