If you keep this up, you might be able to do this professionally some day. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

As usual, beautiful work.

What does the c stand for?

Hans,
You are at the stage in your life when "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right". This is just another example of "Old World" craftsmanship and your amazing artistic vision.
BTW, I used that glue you suggested to me at breakfast in Bakersfield and the repair worked very well. Thanks for your very gracious professional direction.
John

Mandolin porn is what it is. Those look great. Hans, when you distress a mandolin like that do you varnish over the bare wood to protect it or do you leave it exposed?

i spoke to hans this week and he has decided to make an attractively priced "poor man's loar" (see his sig line). i was kinda shocked at the pricing. but he did say he'd only be making a limited amount. anyone want to buy one of my A's so that I can order one of these puppies?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Thanks folks! Sorry for the slightly fuzzy pix...trying out a lens with OIS (optical image stabilization). All pix were shot handheld!
John, I'm glad the glue suggestion worked for you. Biorkman, the C stands for classic...I've been applying the suffix to replica instruments.
Garnet, the PML instruments will be a lot more affordable for most folks. Basically, they will look almost exactly the same as the F5C's, but even more importantly, will have the same tonal qualities as the F5C. The PML will be single bound ivoroid on the peghead, fingerboard, top and back. They will sport the same logo and flowerpot, and the single bound tortoise pickguard will be optional. Finish will be a simpler, slightly thinner varnish. I won't go through the distressing process with them, but I may age the binding some. I'm trying to get one done for IBMA.
Shayne, I might have some clips of the F5C's in a week or two.

Thanks Bill...now get to work! #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Pete, thanks, I appreciate hearing that...still trying to get to Wintergrass.
Joe, won't be at MBOTMA, but isn't it a shorter drive to my house than the festival? #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Hey, that's easy...just like Bugs Bunny used to say "Go to Albuquerque and turn left!"

Ahh, Pete, a left trun at Albuquerque would put me in Oklahoma! #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Seriously, it all depends on whether the gods of Wintergrass allow me a booth and a hotel room.

Hans will start building one for me next week. I’m getting a shiny one!

If not you're always welcome to join me - I'll be on a six-day cruise of sunny Mexico. #After last winter I decided I'm gonna need a break about late February.
