These are pics of a mandolin we finished for a young man in the area. This has a pearloid board with gold sparkle inlays in the peghead and fingerboard. Take a look at it and let us know what you think.

Please excuse the pic of the board at the top. I will be adding more soon. The pearliod is hard to capture on the camera.

I have a friend Robin Smith who makes banjos. He makes the Charlie Cushman signature Kel Kroyden Banjo. I have heard him talk about that pearloid look as Ode de Toilet. Not my taste, but Bryan, you did some fine workmanship on that mando.

Wow, I haven't seen so much MOTS since I sold my last TB-11!
Something about that is so gaudy it's cool...

In what way does this pearloid fingerboard affect the sound?

Nice work btw!

For something similar, check out Gruhn's mandolins for an '87 Gibson F5 Florentine model; mother and daughters of pearl.

I think the guy still has that lefty Osborne. If you are interested in it, I will find the guy's e-mail address and get in touch with you. If you could e-mail me I will send it to you. bryan@custominlay.com

As for the sound, we have done a solid pearl board before, and it did indeed affect the sound. However, with this stuff, the way we did it, we couldn't really tell a difference in it. Like it was posted up above, there is just something about it that makes it good. Thanks for all the nice comments too. We are kind of new to this forum thing so, thanks for all the kind words.
