Hi all. I just received my very first new Mandolin in over 40 years of playing. I ordered a new Gibson F-9 and have worried for weeks that it would not match up, hold up, or stand up to my F-5 or MM70. Guess what? Right out of the box it was a masterpiece both in sound and looks. Check out the pictures. The sound is clean, deep, pure and it rings and sustains forever. And for Blue grassers it is LOUD! I don't play that way, but when I want it it is there. If you have been interested in an F-9 but cautious, go for it.

Cool!
Contratulations, Dan.
Call me crazy, but when I squinted at the picture, I thought I could see the outline of the state of Texas.
What was really weird was I though I saw a slight flaw near the center, but then I realized it was a spot on my monitor.
Either that or Mineola...

I just played an F-9 last week (I won't tell you where because then somebody will run out and buy it before I get the money saved up for it http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ) #My gosh it rocked! #It was loud, it had amazing tone. #When I picked it softly the tone and volume were still there. #When I chopped it the thing barked like a big dog. #

This was the first high end Gibson mandolin I've every played and I darn near went into debt right then and there to get it. #It was awesome. So I'm sure that yours is a fine instrument as well. Congratulations and have fun with it. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I did og into debt to get my A 9. No regrets except that I can't seem to pay off the debt. YOu can break my kneecaps but DON'T touch my mando.

I have been very impressed with the F9s, most of them that I've played were great sounding with good play-ability.

Thanks guys, after I bought the F-9 I took it to our local master luthier. This guy does repair work for Gibson and Martin among others and I've known him for 30 years. The first thing he did was to hold it gently in both hands with the top up and his finger tips on the back. He blew into the f hole and his eyebrows lifted straight up. I guess he was impressed because he called his partner to come and do the same thing. He said it had something to do with pitch/sensetivity/something??? Anyone got any ideas what he was looking for?

Hmm.
Kind of reminds me of my wedding night...

That is the most figured F-9 I have seen yet!

My guess is that he inhaled and got the rattlesnake rattle caught in his chops. If this F9 sounds as nice as the one I played in NC last fall, you are in for quite a ride!
