I've done cigar box mandolins, guitars and just about every imangineable variant of the biscuit tin banjo/guitar/dulcimer/mando...

...but here goes with the vintage port case mandola.

It's got decent volume and a surprising amount of sustain, with a drone-y sound that's quite nice on chords.

Looks and sounds great! And the hinged body should make for easy repairs.

That's fun, Rob! If any of you have trouble going right to this site, as I did, cut down the URL to www.tinguitar.com, then click on the sound files. Easy. I think I like the sound of the cigar box mandolin better, though. Both nice, though. Keep up the good work.

That definitely needs a scroll http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif just to make the point. Reminds me of that snake that swallowed a refrigerator...

Yeah, the cigar box was all solid woods, where this box has a plywood top & bottom. Did you try the tin mando clip?
