In short, yes and yes. But.....do a search and you'll find tons of info on Kentuckys and this model in particular.

Low Gap, the 150 is what it is - a $175.00 all solid 12th fret to the body A style mandolin. It is not as good as your Kalamazoo. Why don't you just play that thing, man? The fact that it's old is no reason not to play it. You keep asking the cafe about all these mandolins, and honestly, not one of them is any better than what you have. Besides that, you are the one who will play it so our opinion is not really what counts. If you insist on getting a new one, go play some mandolins and buy the one you like the best.

I played a 150 in a music store recently and was pleasantly surprised. I almost bought it on the spot. It had a great sound and played well. Was looking for a second mando for work.

I held back, however, and ordered a km-174 (one of the new entry-level oval-holes) from Gianni. Got it this week -- this thing is sweeet.

I would echo that if you have an old Kalamazoo that is playable, it will be way cooler than any of these cheap new mandolins. Would you consider selling it?
