I have some red spruce for tops with very tight grain. I measured off two 1" sections to measure the grain. The first had 46 grains per inch, the second had 52 per inch. I believe it was mentioned some time ago in a thread here that 10 to 20 grains per inch would be ideal. Any thoughts or experience with the tighter grain?
