You know...
The one you thought was going to be your best yet, but refuse to describe the sound of in polite company. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
The one that defied every attempt to produce all your hard thought out theories. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
The one that you are ashamed to make a wall hanger out of, not because of how it looks, but because of how it makes dogs howl and slink off. http://showcase.netins.net/web/antlurz/omg3.gif
...no guts, no glory. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Well you certainly opened the floodgates to those makers desiring to open deep wounds to their fragile egos. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I dunno...

Perhaps they're all "sawn in half" by now.
I was hoping Bill Bussman would post another picture of what he called the "worst sounding fiddle I ever made" that he posted once before. He finally made a new neck for it with a carving of a monkey with it's "hands" over it's ears in place of the scroll. Funniest thing I ever saw on here!

I had one and never had a desire to photograph it. I bought it new, and after years of failing to get it to sound the way I thought it should, I passed it along to an eager buyer.
Might be why I'm leery of used instruments in perfect condition http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

The 'hear no evil' fiddle is like the Fusiliers motto: 'we're better than we sound' engelmann topwood from a genuine farwood pile in Breckenridge, colo. Never sawed it in half, but took it apart half a dozen times to make it sound as bad as it does!

Yep. That was hilarious!
I'd imagine there are a few ..or even more that a few... out there that prove to be, regardless of how pretty they are... not gonna be endearing their owners hearts anytime soon. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
....specially if the builder has some experience under their belt.
