Here's a cool, slower version of Jessamyr's Reel played on some sort of funky mandola:

Yeah, I saw that on youtube earlier today.

Every time I hear a mandola or an octave, or a mandocello for that matter, I begin looking at instruments on ebay - as if I needed another instrument in my collection.

I feel cramped on the mandolin - I feel like I'm performing some kind of microsurgery, but I LOVE the instrument.

Perhaps something larger and more spacious...

Something to consider. #If I am having a "bad mandolin day" my best fix is to take down the mandocello and bang away for 20 - 30 minutes.

Then I pick up the mandolin and it feels like the entire world is under my hands -- I can play it like a dream -- everything is easy. #

It is the reverse of soccer players who practice striking on a small net so that it is easier to hit the regulation net in the match.

So there is your reason to buy an octave. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Wow, Jean Lacote makes some nice-lookin' instruments. Check out his Web site (http://perso.orange.fr/jl-mando/us_sommaire.html).

(Note: This page and its subordinate links seem OK, but if you go back to the index you might get a popup offering you the chance to win some racy lingerie ...)

Yes well, I'm definitely looking at adding some larger instruments to my collection. At this point it's inevitable as I've caught the MAS.

As to the racy lingerie, I wouldn't mind acquiring that as well if I only had a racy little thing that I could put it on (and take it off).
