I'm learning now at age 29, so I thought I would start my little guy at age 2 with me. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

That's a cute little guy you've got. I'm sure you're a proud dad.

Nothin' wrong with that! My daughter (who is now 2, soon to be 3) has been holding a mandolin ever since I put one in her hands. Whether it be my mandolin or guitar she's always asking to play it when she sees me playing one of them.

Basically, the one thing that I've tried to get her in the habit of is holding the instrument in the right way, not just have it laying flat across her lap. Now it's second nature to her. Even if it means supporting the neck under a couple of throw pillows. As time has moved on (in fact this evening) she's singing the Alphabet Song while strumming with a pic as well. But what I've also noticed is that she's lifting her fingers on and off of the fret board while stumming and singing... until the pic falls into the sound hole(s). She even staggers her fingers like she's making runs. Even though she's not really making any actual chords she's getting the idea whether she knows it or not. "Music" to my ears!

My other two kids don't have the interest. She'll probably be my "Bluegrasser" eventually. I'm not pressing anything but as long as she wants to play any of the instruments I'll let her. Only time will tell.

Have fun with the idea of your Son wanting to jam out with Dad! #

Happy Father's Day, everyone! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

When my nephew was about that age he really enjoyed sitting on my knee between me and the mandolin and "helping" hold the pick while I played.

I think every 2 year old should have his or her own Gibson F5. I think my congressman is sponsoring a bill in congress right now. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hey, I'm with ya there. Both of mine and soon to be the third one will have had some string in their hands from just about birth. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
