My earphones that came with my i-pod developed a buzz, so I had to get a new set. I was going to just get another i-pod set for 39.99, but decided to upgrade to the V Moda which also offered noise cancellation. The V Moda Vibe Earbuds set me back 79.99, but what a huge upgrade from the standard i-pod phones, which I thought wre pretty good.

The music comes through clear and warm and I can really hear the separation of instruments nicely. The mandolin comes through really well and I feel like I can now hear more of the subtle nuances which I couldn't hear before with the i-pod phones. The outside noise cancellation also works very well. Anyone looking for a good upgrade on their i-pod headphones should check these out. My only regret is that they were sold out of bling-bling black http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I can't cope with earbud headphones, and my recommendation for an upgrade over the stock headphones is the Sennheiser PX-100 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-PX-100-PX100-Headphones/dp/B00009QH7P/ref=pd_bbs_6/203-5699720-2382351?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1181297523&sr=8-6), which is very lightweight, very comfortable and has a vastly better sound quality than the stock earphones. Much cheaper than either of the prices you list, too, although it isn't active noice cancelling, and as it's open, it's not really designed for listening in noisy environments.

I use my Shure in ear monitor buds on the ipod. Great sound and they block out a lot of outside noise the way they seal up in your ear. You can listen at way lower volume than with regular ear buds and still hear all the details.
