I am new to this site and hope that someone can help me out or at least point me in the right direction. I have a Harmony Monterey which I beleave is a mid 50's modle. It is in great condition, and it sounds fantastic. It is a dark almost OX blood and black color sunburst design, with Harmony in white letters and Monterey in red letters on the headstock. I have learned how Harnomy did their modle and serial numbers, but I have not found and markings on it. The Harmony web site says very little about mandolins. Where can I go to find out more about his mando? I know that they used this color design from the 30's through the 50's. Any help would be welcomed.

I have one just like yours that I bought new about 1973 so its very likely yours is also from that same era. Some info here:

and also here for logos and such on ukes to give some idea of styles and lables that Harmony used in certain eras:

There are no serial numbers on Harmony Instruments. There "might" be a model number stamped inside and there "might" be a date code. A date code will look something like F56 or S75 and it might be very faded. Contrary to what has been posted here prior, Harmony was making Monterey model instruments in the mid 30's. I have seen the modern labeled Monterey's back as far as 1947. Post a picture of the front and back including a shot of the back of the headstock. There's a chance that there might be an indicator visually of the decade it was manufactured.
