What't the thinking on this (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250118764984) one? Clearly, that bridge is wrong, and the headstock (with truss rod cover!)and logo look like nothing I've seen before. The serial number (6852) would put it pre-1910, which may match the inlaid pickguard, except that the pickguard doesn't look quite right to me either. So, is this an out-and-out fake, or a renecked original?

The headstock, trussrod cover and logo suggest that the neck comes from an 1940s-ish A40/A50, to my untrained eye.

I would say a 40s or 50's reneck on a 1905 mandolin. Bridge & tailpiece replaced at same time, possible refinish. Tuners appear to be the originals. The back is interesting, possibly showing some figured birch or maple, which might also not be original to the top.. then again I see the orville label inside, which normally wouldn't get moved to a new back. Interesting amalgam !

Definately a weird bird, that mandolin. The referrence to the Folkladen in Munich is interesting though. The shop where the seller claims to have bought the mandolin is operated by Rüdiger Hellbig, probabbly THE 5-string banjo ace in Germany, a nice fella all the way. So for someone interested in such a mando it would be quite easy to call up Rüdiger and ask him if he remembers the mando.

Not being interested in this mando and just to quench my curiosity I´d like to know if you think that the calling price of about 500,-EUR (~700,- USD)would be allright for that instrument?
