I was just getting ready to delete these pictures from my computer, so this looks like a good place to post them first. Here's one before I added the new James tailpiece

Here's another clip of possibly a more fitting tune for this mandolin. Spent a while yesterday trying to get a good take and then whilst in the middle of one I was decently happy with, the phone rang. so here's this one:

Why don't you practice a little bit! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

That Daley does have the sound, doesn't it? And very nice playing too.

hey, congrats on the daley. i know #23 very well and it is one of the best sounding mandolins i have ever heard. i went with the original owner to sim's to pick that mandolin up and he played along with the c.d player all the way back to b'ham, al. it sounded great right from the get go, so about a year ago i got on sim's waiting list and hope to get one by the end of the year. i told the captain that was the only reason i didn't buy it when it went up for sale the first time. you've got a good one.

cool and thanks - i was wondering how it sounded new. any clue how the extension got sawed off???

after some careful comparisons I do like that Daleys tone, but I can't seem to get St Anne's reel outta my head...lol!

ok, thanks. i think the best way to get any song out of your head is to start humming the I Dream of Genie jingle.

Hey you other lucky Daley owners, how about some pics of your's? Mind having your thread hijacked Brad?

hey brad,
the original owner of #23 is one heck of a player and plays professionally about five nights a week. it was a simple matter of the extension in the way and not enough time to have it scalloped. thus the sam bush cut you have now. still a great mandolin.

Brad, on the pic that shows the Floridactomy, it looks like the "craftsman" that did the operation let the saw blade clunk down on the top when he sawed thru the fingerboard leaving a blade width scar. I hope I'm wrong and it's a reflection. If not, no damage to the sound but kind of a bum thing to happen to an instrument of that caliber.

Also, checked out your links. Pretty cool stuff and nice tone on St. Anne's too!

yeah...they did. it was darkened and a bit less noticeable now. captain's pics were prior to that. no big deal as it's a keeper and i would've had it done anyway...cleaner of course, but saved me a couple bucks:D

that thing is classy looking- the scuffs give it character. is yours a satin or gloss finish?

here's a blurry pic of Steffey's Daley from a little Q&A session at ETSU

bradeinhorn

i don't know what i'd call it. it is the same model as steffey's. a VERY thinly applied laquer finish. more gloss than satin i'd say, but you can barely tell it's there.

Regarding the tailpiece on Steffy's mando, is that Sim's design without the cover? I saw another photo somewhere and it looks like a pretty cool design.

I believe it's a price without the slid on cover.

I did a couple googles and can't find another photo or one for sale anywhere but I'm not the most 'net savvy user out here.

I had trouble getting to the Daley site a couple of days ago, but it's working for me ok now.
