For anyone looking for a Ellis Mandolin there is a killer one that just arrived at Gruhn.

I was in Nashville and had never seen one in person, and did the trip downtown to Gruhn just to see it. Man that thing is a killer axe and definitely lives up to all of the talk lately about Ellis mandolins.Perfect in every way it sure is http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Nope....I actually was in town buying a Master Model from a personal friend.I have wanted a MM for several years and got a really good one.

But, that Ellis would definitely give any mandolin a run for its money. It really made me think "should I take the MM back and get this"...If I hadnt waited 5 years for the MM I would have been in a REAL dilemma http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I was at a party at Tom Ellis's home after the Collings' concert/party at the Continental Club last July during NAMM...I was able to play a few of his mandos and check out his work place...The mandos were insane and Tom was a great guy to host a fun party with a lot of music, Shiner Bock, and eats...

You certainly couldn't go wrong with one of his mandolins...they are awesome.

Sometimes you can just look at a few photos and tell without hittin' a lick that would be a great mandolin. That looks like it would be goodin'. Quality up there and price not so bad. Outside of Skaggs and fatherinlaw Buck I can't think of too many Ellis pickers.

I don't have an Ellis, but I have an Ellis pickguard on my mando, put on by the man himself (who I never met).

If memory serves me right (not always the case), both Ricky and Buck now use Gils (when Ricky's not playing his Loar):D
