evenin' y.all- it's Sat. pm and i'm all on my lonesome. My observation in my short time at the cafe is that most of you pickers have a great sense of humor, in the great tradition of say, Jethro Burns/Sam Bush. Mando boys and girls are real wits, more so than other types of players. Why is this, I wonder? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Maybe it's because we're so darn smart! We chose to play the mandolin, didn't we? Besides, it's tough for other pickers (banjo, fiddle dobro, etc.)to make fun of us. It's too obvious that the mandolin players are the brains of the band! (Tongue planted firmly in cheek.)

We are more highly evolved than other musicians. See "Evolution" 2/3 of the way down this page:

I totally agree with the evolutionary scale listed but the look of the gal on "American Gothic - the Lost Masterpiece" looks very familiar to me......hmmmm...
Oh! yeah its the same look I get from my wife when I start talking Calton or Phoenix cases or ordering a "really big" order of mandolin wood.

as the recent/resident jester (and musican) in local Mayday festivities - I concur. (Even tho the local paper called it a steel banjo!?? Joke's on me?)

Don't know why one would come to that conclusion...

wow! see what I mean? that is some funny stuff, I'll tell you! Those spoofs were great. Even Big Mon dressed in drag for comedy routines early (very) in his career. Tedthro you may be a joker, but I bet you play like an ace
