Hmm... they should have never asked Salvador Dalí for his A-style blueprints. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The day I recieved my bending iron I practiced bending wood for hours. I threw most of the pieces away. It appears as though they were salvaged from the landfill and used on this mandolin.

You are right Ira! Looks like a Timothy Leary Orange Sunshine Burst on the front, and a purple Owsley micro finish on the back!

Y'know... what that thing really needs to set it off is a scooped fretboard.

BTW - must've been a sale on bone nut material the week that thing was built... y'think??

Bad thing about that last one, take a closer look:
Wife would always be yelling at me for leaving it up after flushing...

It's a good thing Lloyd Loar wasn't a plumber then eh Ted.
And please folks, respect for Orville.....even when he did put cherubs on the pick guard.

The last post was about the Lyre-shaped mandolin.

That Owsley mandolin has been discussed many times here on the Cafe. I agree it is truly ugly.

However, and I know I will not get a lot of agreement on this, I wonder what the reaction would be if we had never seen an F style mandolin before, it had never been invented until now, and we saw one for the first time. I think people would go, "What is the deal with that? That's awful!"

This thread (ending on #17) actually dates back over 8 years ago to 2004. Some of the images are no longer with us. RIP. :-)
