Just a note to say that I am doing my once a year gig at the Edinburgh Folk Club on Wednesday 30th June 2004, with ex-Easy Club guitarist Jack Evans and fiddler John Martin (Ossian, Tannahill Weavers), along with Scots singer George Duff. So if you like Sobells, Nationals, bouzoukis and the like come along! 8pm as always.

This sounds like a great time. Just my luck you would be doing the gig on June 30. I won't be arriving in Edinburgh until the afternoon of July 1.

Do you have any recommendations for good places to go in Edinburgh or Glasgow? I'll be in Scotland during the month of July.

Thanks

Start at Sndy Bells pub on Forresthill, near the National Museum of Scotland. There's music there every night, and just ask what's on. There's a session on in The Tass on the High Street on fridays. The List has all the action for all arts in Edinburgh and Glasgow - it's in most newsagents, and is a necessity. It's published fortnightly, a couple of quid.
There's always a good lot of things going on in the Highlands in the Summertime too, should you head North West at all. Best check locally.
Sorry you can't make the gig, but have a great trip anyway.

Kevin: it must be a pretty big club if you are bringing your entire collection!

Ah, that would be nice, but I'd be spendingthe whole evening trying to tune up! It would be like painting the Forth Rail Bridge! Probably sound like it too!

I'll be using my Sobell mandolin, 8 string Greek bouzouki, and National tenor guitar. However, I will have my new mandolin there too, a wondeful resonator instrument made by Mike Lewis of Fine Resophonics in Paris, a wood bodied prototype mandolin, in quilted maple. It's a stunner, loud and mellow. Jack will have his archtop Sobell guitar, George has a fantastic sounding Larivee guitar with an amazing Unicorn headstock inlay. All these fancy instruments will deflect attention from our aged countenances!

The newly formed Leith Folk Club has some great acts coming up on Tuesdays, in a smashing wee venue, The Village, South Fort Street

Luke Plumb and Simon Bradley just did a great gig there, Luke, of Shooglenifty, excelling on his gorgeous maple bodied Daffy bouzouki.

This is a brilliant cd by the way, with stunning bouzouki accompanying. Well worth getting, and sublime fiddling too.

Mandolin exponent Anna Massie coming soon too, so a good few mandolin things there.
