View Full Version : Ffcp

i learned the basics and scales before i found the FFcP
i did my own version of FFcP before i found it.
it wasnt quite the same though.
i messed with FFcP a little here and there, but figured i didnt need to mess with it since i was already messing with alot of other techs to get more familiar with the fret board.....
so what im getting at is this...

i noticed that the FFcP system does something that no other technique ive been practicing does. it really smooths out your solos, instead of jumping thorough positions or sounding "scaley" you have the ability to move to a higher set of notes without changing the voice of the solo so much, unless you want to.
i dont know if i did the thought i have justice, but its really a great thing.
i have to emphasize the fact that it really smooths out the solos and melodic ideas, a more subtle way of moving into a higher note range or lower for that matter.
anyone whose ever just messed with it, i reccomend giving it a go again and using it in your playing with those thoughts in mind, to smooth it out, and be less jumpy or abrupt when moving a melody or melodic idea around.

good work ted! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I've been using the FFCP for several years now and the rewards are worth the time spent. If you haven't yet check out Chromatic Mastering, Moving on up and Super FFCP, all worth the time. Ted has put together some great stuff. I can't wait for his book.

Yeah, the ffcp exercises are all very valuable, and not just for jazz! They're great technical exercises to improve tone, control, speed and knowledge of the fretboard. Thanks Ted, and keep up the great work! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Ok, I figure the "ffcp" is some sort of excercise, but would someone mind defining "ffcp" please.

Four Finger Closed Position

Just check out the Ted's site under Fingers / Exercises & Techniques.

Sometimes, while playing through them, I've thought to myself they should be called MFoP (Middle Finger Open Position) as they can hurt. But no pain, no gain, right #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

What I really like about FFcP is that it allows me to find where the melody is seated in the scale. It makes learning tunes much faster, and then "soloing" in those tunes is a breeze.

I've said this before, but it bears repeating at regular intervals: Thanks Ted, great job!
