I've got an old 1906 Gibson mandolin and i'm trying to find someone who can tell me about how much its worth. Its in rather good shape (spent several decades in a sealed box) but other than that I don't know much of anything about antique mandolins. I'll get around to taking and posting pictures of it soon, but it looks almost exactally like this:

Does anyone know of anywhere around the Philadelphia, PA area I can get it appraised?

I'd say you're looking at a 1914-1918 or so A1 or A2, with a later adjustible bridge and missing the pickguard. Providing there are no cracks etc it's probably retail in the neighborhood of $1000-1500. A dealer would most likely offer to consignment sell it, you might do better on ebay. The A-models that aren't from the 1922-1924 range are fairly common on the market and don't generally cause a stir at sale, but folks are looking for them.

That isn't the picture of the actual instrument so it may or may not look exactly like it.

Its very close, and the label is dated 1906. A friend of mine somehow verifyed the serial number several years back, although I have no idea how or where.

Wouldn't an '06 have an Oriville label, inlaid pickguard and the "pointy" tailpiece cover?

If 1906 is on the label, it would be a patent date, not necessarily the date of the instrument. Tell us the serial number and we'll tell you the year.

...And a low bridge.

Here's my 06...note the - inlaid pick guard, Orville harp label and low non adjustable bridge. If the label isn't like this its probably a newer one from the teens or later.
