Very nice, Kent. Looks spectacular for #4. I like that you left the colors in the headstock veneer wood.

Thanks everyone! #I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

To answer a few questions....

Adirondack Spruce top with tonebars
Red Maple back/sides/neck
Triple binding all around
Ebony Peghead with MOP & Abolone inlays
Ebony fretboard with 12" radius, abolone dots, #and 'medium' frets
Schaeller Tuners, Allen tailpiece, J74s
Alcohol-based stain with lacquer finish
lots of sanding and rubbing #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Yes, it's spoken for (by Bobby Brite of the Clear River Bluegrass Band (http://www.clearriver.homestead.com/index.html)). #Harlan # 5 will probably be underway soon.

Stunning! You must have a background in woodworking or instrument building of some type? WOW!

Kent, do you still own the first three. I was super impressed with those as well, beautiful instruments. Would love to hear a sound bite.

I know this is off subject, but I just have to say it.

Every time I see a post from MandoPluker, I always think it says

Kent, That sure turned out "great". I can hardly wait to see it. If it sounds as good as 3 than it will be awsome.

I LOVE the color. I hope you don't mind, but I have added your picture to my collection of color ideas. Very nice work, for #4 or #400.

Well, I delivered the mandolin today. #This is my 4th mandolin, but the 1st one I've sold. #It's kinda like selling a child -- bittersweet!!

Here's the new owner - Bobby Brite of the Clear River Bluegrass Band (http://www.clearriver.homestead.com/index.html)

Kent,
I agree with the other compliments. I really like the shading. Looks like a first class job all the way around.

Bobby's got that satisfied & proud look in his eyes. Maybe his M.A.S. is cured?

Come on we all know there is no cure, it only goes into remission. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hey everybody!

Well I've been playng Harlan 004 since I got it and all I have to say is WOW!!! I cannot beleive the tone this thing has. It is so crystal clear all the way up and down. Balanced all the way across. It has opened up just in the hours that I have been plaing it. The sound is truly unbelievable. It plays like butter. Kent has it dead on!

The workmanship is great as you can tell from the pictures. I sat it in the corner when I quit playing it for about 30 seconds last night and just admired it. It is a beauty.

Although M.A.S. is still here, this one is a keeper. I would put this thing up against any other mandolin. I look forward to playing Harlan 004 for a long time.

Kent was great during the entire building process. He sent me pictures and always kept me informed. Super nice guy and a pleasure to do business with!! I will try to post a soundclip as soon as I can.

Bobby
