I own a 10-string Freshwater mandolin, and am looking for some additional role models to provide me inspiration for using my C-course more.

Regarding 10-string players: I am a big fan of Dagger Gordon and Iain MacLeod, both players of Sobell 10-string mandolins; are there any other mandolinists in any Celtic (or folk) genres that routinely record with a 10-string mandolin?

Regarding mandolas: it occured to me the other day while listening to Dervish, that I could look to Mandolaists (is that a word?) for additional sources of inspiration; can you recommend any groups or CDs with standout Mandola performances?

Good idea -- I'll load Shatter the Calm into my CD player tomorrow and give it a few more listens over the next couple of days.

Look for Ale Moller, a great mandola player. He has a duo album with Aly Bain, called "Fully Rigged" -- really amazing stuff. Also a solo album called "Horse and the Crane", more Scandinavian than Celtic but still great stuff.

I'd second Ale Moller as someone who specialises in Mandola.

For something completely different, you might seek out some recordings by long-time Wille Nelson associate Paul Buskirk, a country/pop-jazz player who makes mandola-only CDs and has been recording (I think) since the 1940s.
