Picked this up about a year ago from Ken Cartwright. Besides the obvious maple/spruce, it has Waverly tuners, James tailpiece, varnish, triple bound and herringbone style soundhole rosette.

First mando I got with a pickguard and armrest. Thought I'd wind up removing both but they're actually pretty nice.

A peghead shot to show Bob's fern. I'm not crazy about fern inlay but this one's pretty cool.

Cool. I remember hearing a tasting sometime back (posted here way back when), and thought the Schneider was the top of the heap Lucky you!

I've had the pleasure to play that beauty. Sounds every bit as good as she looks.

Bob builds 'em 2 at a time, and here's #47 bench-mate...

Heavily bearclawed Sitka top, although it doesn't really show up in these pics...

Mike Blohm's inlaid tuners are a natural on instruments like these....

This thread kind of makes me sick. Not to take away from Spruce, but Bob built Kens and his along with a third - one slated for me. I had my deposit in and make all appropriate custom selections and it was in the works. He even sent me photos along the way. As the delivery date approached, I had to decline (for personal, financial reasons). I recall just how psyched I was at the time and this thread is just more to ponder. I have a strong feeling that this mandolin is what I truly want for some old-time playing and tearing it up too!

Carry on. . . . .

Beautiful instruments!

I agree with Jason. The handel style buttons are slick too. I guess if you are building a mandolin for a tone-wood dealer you better deliver the goods.

Bradeinhorn nailed it. It's horn...

Those pics really do it for me.
I actually like the horn pics better than TS...

I have a few horn picks (I think...), the ones I have are not straight, they're pretty bent. How do you deal with that?

Edit: I also wanted to mention that the mandolins in this thread are some of the best I've ever seen... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

The ones I have are pretty flat....
You might try boiling them for a few minutes, and then clamping them between 2 boards? That works with TS....

I'll give that a shot!

Is this the stuff you're using? It's what I'm talking about: http://elderly.com/also/accessories/items/PK25-RND.htm

Well, mine's more like this (http://elderly.com/accessories/items/PK25-TRI.htm) one...

I'm done with TS...
Just got back from Mexico, and have a much higher appreciation for the plight of the turtle...

I've never had the opportunity to play with real tortoise shell so I don't have anything to compare it with. I love my red bear trading company pick though. I had given up on the horn ones because they were shaped so funny but I'll give the boiling thing a shot this weekend. Glad to see we have the same materials, there's some hope I guess..

OK, back to Mr. Schneider's F4/F5 hybrids...

Any other pics out there?
