what he's been up to lately. He's a terrific player, razor sharp on the banjer too.

I saw his brother not long ago, told me he rarely gets out to pick, doing the family thing and working construction. A local guy did a record and had Rick play on it - mando, bass, banjer, dobro. Not many people know this, but the tasty dobro on Come Sit By The River recording by Charlie Waller is Rick.

Scotti. I am so sorry to hear about your mother's death and our prayers are with you and your family. #My question is this for the bluegrass scholars - John Duffey supposedly has (had?) a daughter named Nancy Allred - is there a connection here?

You got it, Scotti. Rick has a pick and bar-b-q every year, I need to get on the invite list for that. The first (and only ) time I saw him was 1980 or 81 with the Gents, at the old Vernon Valley fest in NW New Jersey. This was a great summer festival at a ski resort, always top notch line-up - Monroe, Osbornes, Bill Harrell, Peter Rowan (had Marty Stuart on guitar). It also attracted a biker crowd, fun to watch those bananas get drunk and roll around in the dirt http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
