Well, got home from work around 630pm. Had supper, played with the kids, and then headed to the farm shop to replace the brake pads on the minivan. #(Some things are priorities and I left this too long. #Got back at 10:00, and now am trying to work a little on my thesis. #(as you can see!). Tomorrow I leave for Raleigh NC at 530am. #I will be dropping my mando off at AC Phelps for a setup, a new nut, and a bridge fitting. #So if I can record Cherokee Shuffle, it will be a quick and dirty recording. #(I don't think it ever stood a chance of being a real sweet smooth recording anyway....)

I was consdering braving a "one-attempt; one-time recording of it, mistakes and all" but we'll see about that.

If not, it will have to wait till after I get mando back.

Ok. Maybe not the first take. But take #4. It's fine. I was quite happy with the playing end of it, (except for the obvious 10 or 12 mistakes), but the recording highlights the inconsistent picking and other 'mistakes'.

That's what's both neat and frustrating about this deal. It's neat to record yourself, but not so neat to hear yourself make so many mistakes....and yet again, that ultimately helps you become better I guess.

Take #3 was about the same, but I noticed on 3 and 4 that there seems to be a matter of my left and right hands not being coordinated in time, or it's just my right hand's fault. It's almost as if my fretting hand is a shade behind or ahead of the pick, and the notes don't ring so clear.

Good night everyone. GOod bye mandolin. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Hopefully see you Saturday! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Alan,
Great job. I think it sounds quite smooth, actually. I really don't think your right hand is 'to blame' for anything, as it's just doing it job, shuffling along in time. (Personally, I always think of the picking hand as 'master', and if the other fingers don't make it to the fret on time, well ... to bad for them, eh? )

Hey, Alan, way to GO! I just downloaded your CS and played chords along with you. Your timing is great! Maybe I'll add my chop to it and send it back to you.....Maybe not.

Nice work! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Thanks guys. The night before I kept making the same mistakes over and over, and last night "those" mistakes weren't too apparent. i even surprised myself with that little shuffle in the 2nd play through of the "B" part (where the tab indicates playing 4 "E" notes, alternating b/w an open E adn sliding into an E on the A string). I didn't do the slide, (b/c if my mando was out of tune even slightly it would be really noticeable there) but I kind of did a little 'shuffle' almost accidentally and it worked. Small potatoes but I liked it. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
