Beautiful back. Where did you find the ebony at? Any soundclips?

That's a beautiful instrument, without a doubt.

Thanks everybody! the ebony and the wrc, european maple for the neck and masser birch for the headplate cover was purchased from Larry Davis, hardwood gallery. easy man to deal with. I had no idea how this instrument would sound, so I asked a lot of questions at the mimf site, and got some very good answers. (too bad I only ventured into this site after the instrument was closed up, I would have asked a lot of them here also, but thats ok there will be plenty more in the future.) I am surprised at the volume and the tone of this instrument---very pleased, of course I am a bit biased( I think thats the right word--by now im sure you all can tell that im a uneducated hillbilly) But to my ears the sound is very good. As soon as I figure out how--- I will get a sound bite on here.If I still have it--already the first day ---three people are interested in buying it and not many have seen it, I suppose because of the unusual wood. Steve---where are you in s.c.? I am also from s.c.

Jerry once again I love seeing that ebony. To let everyone here know the sound is great. The softer WRC compliments the dense ebony. I played it last night and it was impressive. lots of volume. Good work

Nice job with the striped ebony. I have been using it for years on mandolins. Take a look at the striped ebony page on my website for more ideas. Keep up the good work!

here are a few pics in the sunlight, even though one can see the flaws better. The wood itself can be apreciated more.

Is there any concern about the ebony cracking over time? It does look very attractive!

Jerry Stapleton

Im not really concerned about cracking, although the wood is dense and hard, it is not brittle. The instrument has a good coat of finish, and the wood came from a very good source (Larry Davis-Gallery hardwoods) So as long as the instrument is not exposed to adverse conditions, I believe it will be ok, I plan to keep it for a while to observe and play, if a problem develops concerning the wood---I will post it on this forum.

Jerry--I'm in Pickens, which is right along the NC border...but I see you're in Spartanburg, which means you probably know right where I am. I'd love to stop by and see some of your builds sometime.
