It could be a real "banjo killer."

I won't accet this as original unless someone can show the use of antler horn was standard in Gibson mandos.

"Ruler Not included."

Funny, I don't see one either.

Joke over. #He now has pictures of a mando instead of the big Bowie knife and ruler

His ad say one tuning key head is missing. Which one?

Read it again. It says "Has nice replacement keys for the player. Original keys are the Ivoriod with one key head missing."
It has replacement keys. The original tuning machines have a knob missing.

Boy, I'm glad to read that. I've been staring at the pictures (of the mandolin) wondering what you all were talking about.

1918 indeed?
I don't understand this mandolin, it has a flat back and a 30's-40's script on the headstock. I guess it is a 30's Gibson, maybe that wasn't so hard...

I've seen similar Gibson's on the board here before - they're cool; but probably $499 is a more realistic price. It does seem like a depression era configuration...

Somebody tell me that IS NOT a Brazilian Rosewood back

The back looks like stained birch to me.

Mandolin Brothers has one for sale, and I believe that the same one is on the classifieds here. They're calling it a 1934 A-00, and the asking price is $1395.

"I have been told it is an old Army Navy model or an O model, but I have no idea. It is what it is!"

Then why say it's a 1918 a2? He must have seen a halfway similar instrument selling for that price and figured he'd scored. Selling estate sale items on ebay may be easy money, but it's not that easy.
