I was browsing the sample pages of the Tenor Mandola Chord Bible, 1728 Chords by Tobe A. Richards, on Amazon UK and it looks like the book is very well put together. #Does anyone know if this book is available in the USA? #Thanks.

I bought my copy off of eBay. Try a search for mandola in the stringed instruments section. I think that www.frettedfriends.com might be a good source as well. (It's the same, actually.)
Good luck.

I am convinced the best way to get way more than 1728 chords is to

(1) learn one basic major chord form on your instrument's tuning (CGDA/GDAE/CGDAE)
(2) learn the simple way to modify that chord form to get all the extensions and alterations (see below)
(3) learn the simple way to find any inversion of any shape (see below)

Figure probably 57 useful chord types, give or take a few...

...multiplied by 4 inversions each: 57 chord types * 4 inversions each = 228 chords shapes on any given root. There are 12 possible roots, so practically speaking, you have 2,736 chords right there.

and then
(4) modify, mix, and match those voicings as desired to create effectively endless variations on those 2,736 voicings.

There is a link below that can jump start your journey. #This has been a public service announcement.

A quote from Friends:

Lisa Kudrow: "How many chords do you know?"

Chrissie Hynde: "All of them."
