This may be an utterly stupid question, but . . . I have seen various pictures of Weber mandolins, and some have "Weber" and others have "The Weber" on the headstock. Neither the style nor the model seem to have any bearing on this. I just bought a bitterroot upgraded to maple with faded leather sunburst, that has The Weber on the headstock--all pictures of other bitteroots I've seen just say Weber . . .thus my curiosity.
Thanks to anyone who can solve this puzzle.

IMHO, a big part of Weber's marketing strategy involves letting buyers have a lot of input in customizing their mando from the standard model catalog. # # # #

Examples? #Headstock logos, headstock inlays, flat fingerboards, radius fingerboards, varnish finish, lacquer finish, tonebars, cross bracing, binding, no binding, maple backs, mahogany backs, traditional sunbursts, chocolate sunbursts, blondes, etc.

It gets confusing. But it seems to work.

Yes, Weber indeed offers many choices. In regard to the name on the headstock, I prefer the style or "font" of the "Weber" over the look of "The Weber". If the Mandolin came with "The Weber" on the headstock it would be ok but I would not pay extra to have it there. They have too many other options I would rather spend $$ on

I have always thought "the" in the name was kind of pretentious (sp?). There's a place near me called The Colony. It's a pretty crappy little burb if you ask me that tries to sound fancy with The in the name. I think Weber players and the company uses it toungue-in-cheek to refer to another company that isn't kidding when they use it.

I think PC is right. Can't you just see the little smirk on Bruce's face every time one of the "The Weber"'s leaves his shop? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Just out of curiousity, are there "The Kentuckys"?

Isn't it a bit impossible that thousands of folks own "The Gibson"http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Tell it brother, tell it! And some of the very best were crafted in Montana by, not only Bruce, but Steve Carlson.

The KM-1500's said "The Kentucky" on the head-stock and had a fern inlay.
