Resonator mandolin

I met a guy over the weekend who was playing a National resonator mandolin. #The sound was incredible -- and LOUD. #The neck was much wider than my Kentucky and it played very smooth. #I could tell the difference in quality between it and my Kentucky almost instantly. #There was really no comparison. #

The gentleman said is cost him about $1600 at Gruhn's. #It was an A-style and appeared to be maple with a nice matte finish on it. A really classy little thing. #

Anyone ever seen one of these?
