http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif I checked the different sites for octave mando and found out that John Pearse, D'Addario and GHS are making OM strings. Any tips on that ? I'm personnaly very keen on D'Addario for my mando.

Salut Phil
Are you french like me ?

So i try D'addario strings guitar 6 months, good sound but wear away too fast.
Now i'm very happy with GHS, very long time.

D'addario = 1 month ( a lot of use of course in session)
GHS = 2 months

http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Salut,

Yes,I'm french and have been playing bluegrass mandolin for quite a long time (20 years !) and a young french luthier by the name of Hervé Coufleau, is going to build me an octave mandolin very soon. By the way, I'm selling an electric guitar to get the money for the OM. It's a 1996 Gretsch Brian Setzer Model,mint condition + case : 3000 €. A bientôt.

I am using the GHS strings but I tune the G D & A strings in octave. I use a .09 bango string for the octave A. I have a set of thomastics but have not put them on. Over time I will try some other brands. The GHS seem okay. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif

A+

http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif Hello Jonathan,
I'm writing in english since we are on an international forum, I think it's fair.Check the builders section and look for the Hervé Coufleau site.
Thanks for the advice about the scale length but I'm planning to have a 22" (55,88 cm)length. If I'm in Paris,I'll let you know but I'm living in Burgundy. Amicales salutations #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
