I posted a request for some upgrade shopping advice back in November. Here is the history on that:

Message post - Upgrade Shopping Advice (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=13;t=39646)

There has been a classifieds post since November for a used Davis A-Artist:

The Davis Classified (http://www.mandolincafe.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi?search_and_display_db_button=on&db_id=21133&query=retrieval)

This caught my eye because of being made by an American builder. #Can anyone tell me about this the Davis A model and how it possibly stacks up against others that have been recommended to me, especially: #Collings MT, Old Wave, Gibson A-9.

Thanks in advance.

Davis mandos are a very well made mandolin. A davis A style was in the classified here and was a steal. His F styles go for alot of money...over $5000.00.
Sound woody and bark loud.

I met Kent Barnes this weekend and had the pleasure of seeing some of his work. He had his Harland #3 and parts of the #4 he's building for Bobby Brite. Once I pried the #3 out of Bobby's hands I was impressed by the quality and workmanship Kent has turned out. The sound was big and very nice. Right now Kent's work is very affordable. He lives in the Flower Mound area in Texas. He's a great guy as well. NFI
