Talk about a big case.. I think this could fall out of the empire state building and survive.

I can pack me some socks a shirt and a change of underwear and be set to go on a week long tour in my mando/suitcase http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

You need to add a burner off an old Coleman stove and that thing would be perfect!

What does it weigh in at? 25lbs? It looks like some sought of hydrolics are needed to move it.

May-06-2004, 11:01am
well when dale shipped the case it was weighed at 21 pounds minus the box weight of course that is with no mandolin. so I would say in the low 20's. It is indeed a MANS case.. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

No luggage-cart wheels and pull-up handle ?
Thought my TKL was weighty, if I didn't have the guitar case in the other hand , one arm would be longer than the other.

I used to play baritone sax. That thing looks as big as the case I had for my sax. Crazy big. One plus though, I could throw a mean punch after band camp. The dorms were a mile away from the where we practiced. Lugging that thing around for a week or so and your right arm'll be pretty solid.

May-06-2004, 2:08pm
yeah Evan I think it is a bit heavier.

Actually the Mother of all cases is getting hard for me to carry.
If anybody would like to trade. I would like to downsize to a Pegasus or a Calton Deluxe with a Case cover if anybody is interested.

Not only it is a mother, I think it's pregnant. Just wait a couple of weeks, I think it's having twins.

Do you pay property tax on that thing, or register it through the DMV?

May-07-2004, 7:11pm
Flowerpot.. It actually has its own zipcode http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Living in Calgary and knowing the Calton "family" rather well, I can tell you that this case is a great case. #I have the same one custom made to house my TEF (acoustic measurement system) and have friends (Michael Heiden for one) with the same case housing both his fiddle and mando. - Yes they are darned expensive. #They require more hand labour at the Calton factory than any other 2 single cases. I honestly don't know if the case is any stronger than the conventional Calton mando case, but "peace of mind" is darned cheap at the price.

What I like about it is the fact that it's like a queen-sized bed for my F-5. She deserves good sleeping quarters, she's lived a long life!

Is there a website for Presto cases???

Happy to say that a Presto case will be heading north any day. Now I'll have a Calton, Pegasus and a Presto. It'll be interesting to compare them.

I have this case bit it fits a mandolin and fiddle. I only use it when I am flying. In case , ha-ha , it gets kicked into luggage from overhead status. Yes the darn thing is H-E-A-V-Y...... but I figure I'm carrying peace of mind..... I keep thinking of buying a Small Dog cover so I can add some backpack straps. R/
