IM working on my 3rd mandolin,,,gonna build a A-style this time and was wondering if anyone has made one with a longer neck,,,i was thinking of placing the 15th fret where the twelth would be....will this work ok to give me more playing room or will it not have enough or right bridge placement then???

the bridge will be farther from the tailpiece. This will have a slight effect on the tone but we're talking about an inch, so not huge.

You could also consider building it with a longer string length scale. In which case, you likely won't want to worry too much about exactly which fret it joins at.

If you decide to try a different approach to skinning the cat, save the catguts for a different project. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Not sure what you mean...
A-5's join at the 15th fret, and A-4's the 12th.
Usually.
Or build a mandola. But it would be tuned differently.
