My better half bought me a CD from Joel Francisco Perri called Mandolins from Italy.

I've never heard of him until now. I'm pretty impressed!!! I guess it was about time that we switched gears away from bluegrass for a moment or two and listen to some good old Italian Bowlback Mandolin music.

It's a recommendation!!!!

There is at least one more CD with Italian music performed by J. Perri. I`m at work right now, but i`ll check my Italian collection when i come home and will tell you if you are interested. What i remember is that one of the CDs includes pieces like: "Tarantella del Diavolo", "Notte di Cristalo", "La Passegiata" and "Il Padrone". The other one features more recent popular pieces like "Marina". Which one do you have?

Compared to other musicians that perform Italian music I should say that J. Perri is amongst my favourite, may be even the best. He seems to be a multitalented musician. Besides the mandolin he plays also another instruments. If i remember well he performs also together with his brother.

Enjoy the present, Keith... and your better half, of course!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Good luck,
Plamen

Plami, Yes that's it!!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I was reading JF Perri's bio and he seems to have been blessed with both parents being musically inclined. His Mother was also an extraordinary mandolin player.

According to what I've read, Perri has also constructed and played flutes from the Andes mountains and has performed in the Latin Quarter of Paris.

His 2nd passion is the mandolin. But just listening to this CD, you would have thought this was his 1st passion. If that's the case, I now have to get my hands on those Andean flute CD's.

Hi Keith,

This CD has a special emotional value for me. I bought it back in 1997 and gave it to a guitar player and told him: "Listen to this CD and tell me what do you think? Do you like the pieces? Can we play those pieces together." He called me the next day and said: "Let`s give it a try". We made a rehearsal starting with the first one "Tarantella del Diavolo", then with Notte di Cristalo", etc. just like they appear on the CD. The result was pretty good. Well, we are still playing with the same guy and have about 10 hours of music in our repertoir. But this CD is where we started. That`s why i remember it so well.

Good luck!

Plami,

Do you have any recordings? I would love to hear some or your material. If I recall, you did a recording last year but I seem to remember something more edgy like a rock song.

My memory is not serving me well right now so I apologize if I have confused you with someone else.

...but still I would love to hear some of what you do.

Take care,
