Can you say "flatback blacktop" 5 times fast? Here are a couple newbies.

Top is a one piece curly redwood on the right, sitka spruce on blacktop. The photos of the backs are actually reversed. the back on the right is cherry (on the blacktop). The back on the left is quilted mahogany which is on the redwood one. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif confusing no?

Really interesting. What do they sound like?

They sound like a lot like a mix of a '23 Loar and a Gilcrest model 5. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Really though...I'm very pleased with them both. I'm surprised at how much a flat back does not alter sound. [I]
Both are punchy, nice and even from lows to highs and I beleive the flat back makes them project a little better. I should have sound clips on my website in a day or so.

Wow. The burst on that redwood is quite nice.
