Be it resolved in 2007 I will:

try out for and/or join a mandolin orchestra.

learn "Darling Corey", and play it in public.

play a duet with my violin teacher in church.

learn a fiddle tune in closed position.

play a medeival mandolin and guitar duet in public.

use my pinky on those four finger chords and not cheat.

NOT purchase or consider purchasing another mandoin for 12 months

stop telling banjo jokes, ... well scratch that, seven resolutions is enough.

You're more ambitious than me...

Here's one: learn one new chord each week. At the end of 2007, if your memory serves you well, you might have fifty-two chords beneath your belt. I'd settle for twenty-six chords.

I'd settle for fingers LONG enough to do chords! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

1. log at least 2 hrs. a night practice
2. limit right-hand DUDU mistakes to one per night
3. master one new tune per week
4. write 10 new instrumentals within the year

I wish luck and willpower to all of us to fulfill these ...

1. Learn at least one of the Bach Partitas or Sonatas which I'm getting the sheet music for for Christmas.
2. Learn the minor scales better.
3. Clean up my chop!!
4. Hopefully take up a couple of lessons via webcam with David Long!

We should compile all of these to make the ultimate mando resolution list. The person that actually did them all would certainly be the next Bush, Thile, Dawg, etc...

I'm already playing a bunch and learning new tunes and getting my pinky involved etc. So instead, I want to:

-Memorize more music theory mechanics like memorize the notes in 5 major scales.
-Learn to derive other scales, on the fly, from the major scales. You know, blues, pentatonic, etc.
-Memorize the note positions on my the fret board.
-Learn a Celtic tune.
-Start learning the square neck resophnic (oops, where did THAT come from?)
-Any combination of the above.

Practice anything, practice evrything, pratice with anyone, practice some more, and make it worth that Mowry I ordered. I would just like to play Rawhide with confidence when it gets here.

mine: stay with the same pick and stop reading threads about picks. We're too picky.

And I will join you in this resolution, Slacker.

I also have to thank you for the questions you have asked since many of them are the same that have run through my mind. I'm still trying to find a local teacher so I don't have to try to teach myself from books and DVDs. Whatever happens I also need to thank all the participants here for the great information and their willingness to share their knowledge. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
