I don't own one but have played a few at a local acoustic specialty shop.

They are par for the course as far as pac-rims go. Eastmans enjoy a good reputation, but I think it's safe to say that Morgan Monroe, Kentucky, Michael Kelly, Gold Tone, Alvarez, and other asian imports are inconsistent at best. Some can sound great, while others have misplaced bracing, or other structural problems.

I will say that I had a pretty nice KM340s (Kentucky A style) that filled in when my main mandolin at the time was having some work done. However, I've also played Kentuckys that were just aweful.

If the price is right, the risk might not matter. Besides, you may get a really nice deal. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I owned the Bean Blossom BFM-300 for a little bit and thought it was nice. I needed to have the action adjusted, but other than that it was nice for the money. I found it wasn't as good for the old-time/good-time music I play, so I moved on, but if i were a Bluegrass player I probably would have held on to it.

The new Chinese made MMonroe guitars are great. Recently bought an M-50 V neck with tone to rival any Martin or Bourgeois-in fact it did, side by side. For thousands less. And a question addressed by phone was answered easily and cheerfully by someone here in the US.
Can't ask for more.

I can second the good quality of Morgan Monroe's new guitars. A local fella who owns an acoustic specialty shop just bought one of the new ones and raves about it. I heard it. Sounds nice.
