My band just recorded a CD from home and it's great, but we don't want to burn the CDs for sale on the computer, we want real ones made. Anyone have any advice or comments or comanies that could do it? We have the audio files and will create a prototype cover, but we want about 500 CDs made for us with printed covers.
Thanks,
Rich

Try http://www.oasiscd.com/music/ I have not worked with them, but see them in Sing Out! magazine and the prices and options seem reasonable. #You might check around locally. #We have several small timers in our area.

Just west of Bloomington, IN there is a http://www.indianaaudio.com/index.html that charges $2000 for 1000 units with a 4 panel insert and jewel case. #I'll see if I can dig up the link. #I think a price break usually occurs at 1000 units. #THey do 500 for about $1000. The cool thing is they have a price comparison of a bunch of other online duplicators, with LINKS!!

The Reiner Family Band has used ELS productions (www.elsproductions.com) and been very happy with the results. They've been accommodating, fast, and fairly priced.

what is a good price for a short run? we can't afford much and would like to get only approx 100 made at first (i know that would be more expensive, but we can't afford much till we sell a few). we have a bunch of orig.s recorded and really want a nice looking cd rather than the shlocky looking demo we made with stick on labels and self-produced insert.

Try Mississippi Studios in Portland. Great Rates, Very Professional. www.mississippi.com
I know 3 bands that have used them for Cd runs and they've been wonderful.

Ira (and Rich) - Try the quote generation tool at ELS productions (www.elsproductions.com). You can configure numbers of CDs, inserts, etc., and get a price quote. Other trusted suppliers that people have mentioned may have similar functionality.

Depending on how quickly you're wanting to get these out, here's an idea. We're doing this right now as a band...

I just ordered a batch of 100 t-shirts that I designed with our band logo (etc) with the intention of using the profits for a CD. At 100 shirts, they were $5 each (for heavy weight cotton).

We'll be selling them at shows and festivals for $15 each. So that'll triple our investment. I'll pay back my mother-in-law/investor (yes, I have a nice mother-in-law), use $500 to order another batch, and bank the remaining $500. Then I'll continue the cycle once the shirts are sold, only I won't have to pay back anyone. So in a few rounds of shirts, we'll have enough for studio time to record our CD, and then a few more cycles and we'll have enough for CD packaging and distribution.

It may take a little longer if you do it this way, but it'll save you money on production in the end.

mandofiddle,
Nice shirt and great idea! I like the color of the shirt too. Can you mix sizes on your order?

Hi Jim,
Yep, you can mix sizes, brands and color. We're having 3 different color shirts, with a different ink color for each one, and we're using Gildan and Fruit of the Loom shirts. They're similar shirts, we just wanted specific colors. And we're getting 10 M, 40 L, 40 XL, and 10 XXL. We're using a company in Boulder called Rage Unlimited (http://www.rageco.com/index1.html). They've been very pleasant to work with so far.

Try Musicians Friend. They have a good deal for 100 CDRs for $200.00. Great deal.

These are especially good for demos. They also do 50 CDRs for $50.00 where you get the CDR, jewel case and writing on the CD. Can't beat that. You may want to do your own artwork. It can save you a lot.

Mandofiddle...
We have done a similar thing with T-shirts and after looking at your size run I would highly suggest that you get some smalls and increase the numbers of mediums. We ordered mostly L and XL and found that most of the girls that will buy our shirts want a small or a medium....They like them tight! We also did a run of those baby doll tank tops that sold really well. Great looking graphic you have come up with on the shirt!
