I just finished this commission. Since it has some interesting touches, I wanted to share them. First the front

The pickguard of curly Brazilian rosewood. Other trim is also this stuff, though my meager photography skills only managed to show it well here.

Thanks for posting pics, Dave.
Had me worried for a minute...I have some lily drawings for a future inlay project, but your's is enough different than mine I don't think you'll have to sue me. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Interesting appointments. -Sound holes, bridge, and how the binding gets thicker at the scroll rather than seeing the seam from top plate. I like it.

Real nice. Is the TRC really held on with just that one crew? It doesn't wiggle/rattle? Sure is purty

Dave,
It is really gatifying to see the use of wood bindings forthe obvious reason of compatability. The whole mandolin is really quite beautifull and I complement you on your abliity to capture the essence of what you are doing..Regards...Gavin

Dave, your work on this project is simply stunning. The lilly is beautiful. The back is one beautiful piece. I really like the the binding. As asked above, what is the binding material? What an instrument.

Lessee;

(1) Yes, the trc is held with just the one screw, and it is snug. It was made to fit snug against the nut, which helps.

(2) The binding consists of multiple layers of homemade 0.030" maple and rosewood. only the outer layer of maple is figured. I have used figured maple for interior layers in the past, but wasn't satisfied with it. 0.030" of exposure is kinda small to show much figure, and it just ends up looking dirty or smudged. I usually tack the binding in place at the miters one layer at a time with ca, then glue all of the binding layers at once, guitar-style, with AR glue and tape.

(3) Sorry, Fatt-Dad, the mandolin is now with its owner in the DC area. I have one C# mandolin (very similar binding treatment) from this batch that hasn't yet shipped, and a C# OM. As always, you are welcome any time.

THe bridge is what caught my eye. Did you build it also?
What would an axe like that set me back? That is one of the coolest mandos from an independent builder I've seen. QUite impressed. You can email me.
