A new permanent part of the Cafe was launched this a.m. It's a mandolin workshop listing for the U.S. (http://www.mandolincafe.com/workshops) and Europe (http://www.mandolincafe.com/workshops/europe.html). Near the holidays there's not a lot of activity, but once 2007 hits it typically gets busy and I anticipate that map getting mighty crowded.

Suggestions, comments, enhancements?

This was Butch Baldassari's idea, and we visited at length in regard to issues facing artists in getting the word out on workshops. I've often voiced my displeasure at the lack of coverage mandolin related events get in the news so this is an effort to help rectify that problem. There are some terrific major events out there that aren't yet listed because dates either aren't published or established for 2007. The big Monroe Workshop at the International Bluegrass Music Museum that was a huge success the first time out in 2006 and the Roanoke event which just concluded are two that come to mind.

Scott:

Will this board be available for one-off workshops, like the one that we had with Skip Gorman at my house last weekend?

Absolutely.

This is where this likely has the most value. Everyone knows about Kaufman's camp, the Symposium and some of the better known national and regional events. Those events have healthy revenue streams and marketing fronts. My experience running community mandolin concerts and workshops has been that if you can bring in an artist and allow them to teach, you're more likely to provide a compensation package that makes it worth their time. This often means the difference in an event happening or not. We're already workshop articles (http://www.mandolincafe.com/news/publish/cat_index_8.shtml) and that format has its own strength, but a listing by date and location I think has added value.

Good idea! I've had a couple occasions to advertise such events and wasn't quite sure where to do it.
