Anyone any experience of bouzoukis or citterns? I'm looking for an additional sound to the mandolin for the group I play in. Who are the good makers?

Look in and search the archives of the CBOM section of the board. Important things to know and decide are scale length, price, tonewoods, flat top (arguably most common) or arched top, and some sense of what you intend to do with it. This is probably the most comprehensive source of informed opinions about these instruments you are likely to find. If you are planning to get one of these things and use standard mandolin fingerings and chop chords you may want to think twice before buying. They are great instruments and lots of fun, but in many ways a parallel universe to what people often think of as mandolin playing.
