This was a sad CD to listen to. The playing was great, but Jerry sounded like life was ebbing from him (as it was).

I thought it was worth the price of admission for the two or three really stellar tunes. Jerry was in especially good voice for the Dylan tune "The ballad of Frankie Lee & Judas Priest" My favorite CD from this series is the jazzier one, with multiple takes of Miles Davis tunes among others, and it includes a slow version of Grisman's 16/16 that is paced so I can actually pick along with it. Jerry is great on Miles' "So What" Who knew he could twin the head on complex jazz tunes like that....I was fortunate enough to hear them play in a living room once.......as an old Deadhead and big Grisman fan.....an evening I'll treasure forever. Garcia was a player with deep & varied roots, who could soar over most musical situations........

FYI, there are some great live recordings of Jerry and David available for free on bluegrassbox.com (http://bluegrassbox.com).

I find that many look down upon Jerry in terms of his playing Bluegrass... their loss really. Perhaps it's his popularity with the Dead or his unorthodox style... Jerry had his own way of picking grass and took it to interesting places.

He opened the door to Bluegrass for me... and I thank him for it.
