For some of you bluegrass pickers that knew Fiddlin` Carl Nelson....He passed away this past Wed after a long illness with breathing problems...Some of you might remember that about a year ago I mentioned on here that my band was playing for a benefit for Carl to help with his medical expenses and some of you sent me checks to donate to the cause...He will be missed in the Md area thats for sure...He played with Bill Harrell and the Virginans for quite a few years..He was a fine person on top of being one of the best fiddle players that I have ever heard....

Sorry to hear about that. I always enjoyed hearing Carl with Bill Harrell -- very smooth, but with a lot of emotion, and of course really excellent technique and tone.

He was also active from early on in the DC scene, with Buzz Busby, early Gents, Bill Emerson etc.

A really distinctive musician.

Sad, indeed. I believe F5Journal's photo thread had a pic of Carl in Harrell's band. He was smooth on the fiddle.
