After lurking for months, I thought I'd go ahead and start showing my ignorance. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

My mando is a Flinthill A-style beater I got off eBay last year to learn on. The sound it is pretty good, especially after I removed the pick guard.

I have no idea who made it and am looking for info on it. Anyone know which pac-rim builder makes/made a Flinthill?

My digital camera is busted, so no pics.

Thanks

I've got one of those too. I think they are a Saga product.
Does it look like this?

Yep, that's very close to mine, except mine doesn't have binding on the fretboard. My bridge is lower on the body, too, which tells me something about the set-up.

The bridge should be between the points of the F holes and then fine tuned from there. Use a tuner to check intonation on each string open, then at fret 12. They shouuld be ab octave apart. mooving toward the tailpiece will bring the note flatter. Toward the nut will make it sharper.

Thanks for that info. I appreciate it.

It is a Saga product ,i use to be a dealer of Saga a few years ago, they were a little lower priced than the Kentuckys were.

mine is LOUD. it was a righty that somebody converted to alefty and sold it to me on eBay that way. I converted it back to a righty for my step-son. It could probably use a good setup, strings are pretty high at the nut. I have been thinking of getting the nut replaced and put on an ebony bridge just to see what happens http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Mine's pretty loud, too (so says my wife) and once I removed the buzzy pick guard, it developed decent mid-tones. It's been a good one to learn on, except the same height issue on the nut.

Of course, I've got MAS something fierce.
