Hi everyone,

I jsut aquired an old Gibson Mandolin and was looking for any information about it I could get.

It is an A style Gibson Mandolin with oval hole, pickguard, non adjustable bridge, says "The Gibson" on headstock and tailcover and has an interesting headstock inlay I've never seen before. Inside it says Gibson Mandolin Style A-S or (5) or (8) the script is hard to decifer. Then there is a paragraph about the gibson guarantee.
It is number 11226 but has no date on it.

I am thinking it might be pre 1920's but I really have no idea. It seems quite old but is in great condition and sounds very nice.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It's an early 1912 A-3 mandolin by the serial number.
The inlay in the peghead is called the curlicue inlay.
It has the golden orange top finish with reddish finish on back and sides. Pretty rare model rigth under the top of the line A model A4.
