I haven't heard much about Andrew Collins on the Cafe, but his disc along with guitarist Marc Roy is some first-rate picking, in my opinion. As I said, I don't know much about Collins other than him being a member of the Creaking Tree String Quartet. Whatever mandolin he's picking on this disc has TONE in abundance. Anyone know what it is? I got the disc on iTunes so it's sans liner notes.
Thanks
Steve

I can also reccommend his album "Little Widgets" - it's stunning!

Unfortunately I couldn't find the CD (I'm in the UK) and had to download it from eMusic so I'm in the same boat as far as sleevenotes go. (I've no idea who else is on the album.) I wish that the download sites would make sleevenotes available!

I'll keep an eye out for the album with Marc Roy but unfortunately I can't download this one at the moment (ditto the Creaking Tree String Quartet stuff).

I think he plays a Heiden. His website (http://www.sytesounds.com/bio/) has more information about the recordings. I haven't got round to buying any of his cds yet but I've been impressed by what I've heard online.

Andrew is from Toronto. He has played with Creaking Tree String Quartet (whose albums I highly recommend), has done some solo albums and has played with a bluegrass group, The Foggy Hogtown Boys. He plays a Heiden, which was for sale in the classifieds here a couple of months ago. He has Michael Heiden building him a new mandolin with an Engelmann top, I believe. He also has a great song posted on the mp3 page here called "Sufferin' Succotash." Great player! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif Sound samples are availble at the Hogtown Boys website: here (http://www.foggyhogtownboys.com)

The album with Marc Roy is called "Likewise" and the incredible picking is not done at the expense of the great melodic ideas Andrew and Marc created here. This is one CD that doesn`t get old to my often jaded ears!
